Fall 2009 stoplist notes: Ok..first the changes: Decided to NOT install the Bourdon 8' rank as a CHIFFY flute. It will eventually be installed but probably not until the Austin 500 console is in place sometime in 2010. (lack of stoptabs on the present console mean that installing it now would mean "losing" a unit stop of another rank...and on the Holtkamp console it is not overly necessary to have two softer flutes on the same division anyhow so no hurry on that. I will likely install it as it was built with NO modifications other than any necessary regulation. The chiff thing would be fun but when the Austin 500 console is installed there is good reason to leave it as built. The 412 chest in the swell chamber is divided into 3 sections (Swell, Great & Unit) for wiring purposes: Swell: Violin Diapason, Echo Salicional, Vox Celeste & Hautbois....this will be the Austin 500 console's main "SWELL" organ. Great: Grand Diapason, Melodia & Flute Celeste....this will be the Austin 500 console's main "CHOIR" organ These two chests are PITTMAN chests meaning that I can NOT use the ranks on these chests on other divisions except thru couplers. Because of this I will be "losing" a flute on the Austin 500 SWELL division...thus necessitating the Bourdon rank. The Bourdon rank is a unit chest that can be placed anywhere on any division. It will go on the SWELL organ as well as the CHOIR organ as I can use that very soft (due to placement) rank on either division most effectively. . I have a Nasonflute 8' rank but not sure that I will be installing that due to space constraints. The Austin Posaune 16' pedal rank: This is a rank I obtained from Trevor Dodd. Because of the extreme space consideration only the lowest 12 notes are installed. This rank overpowers the other reeds on the organ so it is a UNIT stop from CC and higher on the pedal....notes 13 thru 32 are the Opus 822's Open Diapason and Oboe playing together. When those 2 ranks play together they approximate the strength of the bottom 12 notes of the Posaune playing by itself for notes 1 thru 12....the transition from notes 12 to 13 is actually very smooth. ![]() Montre 16': This pedal extention rank was installed in September of 2009....It was a very pleasant surprise that I would find a rank I could fit in the house....as in the photo above, it is literally attached to the ceiling.....this rank originally was on a Austin Theatre Organ voiced at 7 inches of wind as a 16' Violone rank....when played at 5 inches of wind it sounds as a surprisingly good 16' Diapason tone match to either of my exposed Diapason ranks...similar to my other pedal ranks it is a 12 note extention, working with my Montre 8'. I have obtained an Austin Celeste rank (marked Celeste only). It will work with the Opus 822's Salicional to complete every string rank on the organ having a well matched celeste. This leaves 2 other ranks to be added to the organ in the future: The 4' Nasonflote (MAYBE), and I'm looking for a Tierce 1 3/5' rank (MAYBE) as well. Those ranks would give a total of 25 ranks to the Opus 822 organ at which point the organ will be complete. I have a genuine WurliTzer Xylyaphone, but whether it gets installed or not depends on the winding situation. It requires 10" of wind and the highest pressure reservoir I have now is only 6 or 7 inches....thus to install it would require a separate reservoir which is possible, but space reasons more than anything else may preclude it from being installed...we SHALL see on that...it would be great fun though, so we shall see on that AFTER everything else is done (circa 2025 or so). ;) |

1 rank from the Opus 638 3 ranks plus pedal offset of Reuter opus 195. 8 ranks from the Reuter opus 412. 2 ranks Reuter, unknown opus/vintage. Non-Reuter ranks. RED: Reuter opus 638 (exposed), 4 inches wind. CYAN: Reuter opus 195 (Tibia/Vox in the swell, Viole Celeste above fireplace in main room) undetermined wind pressure. ORANGE: Reuter opus 412 (swell) 6 inches wind PURPLE: Reuter Spitz Flute & Flute Celeste (Reuter, unspecified vintage, 51 scale) These two ranks willl be used for the 8' Spitz Flute & celeste as well as the 4' and 2' flutes on the swell. It is a 73 note rank, and I will be filling in the top notes with the 2' pipes of a bourdon from the opus 412 which will be revoiced to fill the top octave of this stop at 2'. It will be placed on the 412 chest in place of the opus 412's unit Bourdon and Dulciana rank. Yellow (non-Reuter) The non-Reuter 2 ranks (1 Trumpet and a Clarinet) are a 1920's vintage Moller Clarinet 8' rank A 1980's Schlicker 16' mitered trumpet 12 note extention works with the Moller Trompette from the Swell manual. Also a Moller Trompette 8' has been added. & Austin Posaune 16' will be added as a pedal extention. Lime Green - Unitized combination Stop This stop will comprise the unit 1 1/3' Tierce from the 822 Salicional, 2', 1 3/5' and 1' 822's Gedeckt I had these stops as independant stoptabs on the Holtkamp console but due to space reasons I won't be able to have them anymore so I have combined them to form a Mixture for the Great. The 2008 specification of the organ was at 21 ranks: 5 Diapason ranks (three ranks at 8', one at 4' and one at 2') 3 Flute ranks 8 String ranks (includings the Violin Diapason & string celestes, Spitz Flute and Flute Celeste) 5 Reed ranks Plus the pedal 16' extentions. |

Poor quality mono audio recording I start out on the Great (lower) keyboard holding down a chord while playing each stop..then go to the Swell (upper) keyboard, playing each stop, then the pedal stops. How did one get so many stops from just 5 ranks of pipes? This type of organ is a unit organ design. Unit organs extend the unison 8' rank up and/or down and use individual magnets / valves on each pipe so that other pitches can be derived from the same rank of pipes. This is the same type of system, but on a smaller scale, used by theater organs such as the "Mighty Wurlitzer". The Great and Swell manuals share the Diapason 8', Gedeckt 8', Dulciana 8', Salicional 8', Violina 4', Flute 4' and Oboe 8' so these recordings are the same for both manuals. 5 Ranks of Pipes unified to 32 stops: unified pipe rank for the Contra Oboe 16', Oboe 8' & Clarion 4' on the Great, Oboe 8' on the Swell, and Oboe 8' on the Pedals unified pipe rank for the Bourdon 16, Lieblich Gedeckt 16', & Bass Flute 8' on the Pedals, Bourdon 16', Gedeckt 8', Flute 4', Nazard 2 2/3' and Flautino 2' on the Swell, Gedeckt 8' and Flute 4' on the Great. unified pipe rank for the Dolce 8' on the Pedals, Dulciana 8' on the Swell, Dulciana 8' and Dulcet 4' on the Great. unified pipe rank for the Cello 8' on the Pedals, Contra Viole 16', Salicional 8' and Violina 4' on the Swell, Salicional 8' and Violina 4' on the Great. unified pipe rank for the Diapason 8' on the Pedals, Diapason 8' on the Swell, Diapason 16', Diapason 8' and Octave 4' on the Great. There are 2 manuals, 61 keys per keyboard. There are 32 pedals. Each of the 5 ranks has 73 pipes, which is more than the number of keys because each set of pipes works in various combinations for each of the 32 stops. The Bourdon 16' extends from the Gedeckt rank, with 97 pipes total for this combined rank. On the photo gallery page, the Bourdons are the large wood pipes.
