June 26 update:![]() Trevor working upstairs on the shades. ![]() ![]() Trevor finishing off one section of shades this afternoon!!! Trevor returned last night to work on the swell shades. Before we unloaded the opus 412's Bourdon and xylophone I got a few more pics of the Austin opus 500 console. ![]() Will be posting more of these photographs in the next few days! June 20 update: ![]() ![]() Austin 500 console is installed as I'm out of "tabs" to operate it without taking a "unit" stop away somewhere on the Holtkamp organ. This is a percussion stop that was included with the Reuter opus 195 theatre organ in El Paso Texas. ![]() That Xylophone had gone missing in the 1970's when the opus 195 was relocated from the Hotel Cortez to a series of churches in the El Paso area..., so this one will be a very historically appropriate addition for the expanded Reuter opus 822 organ. A few more recordings are being made, nothing major..awaiting the 16' pedal Posaune before doing any more "BIG" works which should be installed sometime by July or August if all goes well. Picking up some more chests this summer to enable the opus 412's Bourdon rank to be re-installed on the opus 412 "Swell" chest. |

June 17, 2009 update: A few more detail shots of the Austin opus 500 original console. Some observations: 151 Drawknobs (used for both stops and couplers), 30 tablet couplers, 3 Unison Off switches, 4 Tremolo switches. There are 3 drawknobs missing that will have to be replaced. ![]() OK..I cleaned off all those black el cheapo labels that were on many of the drawknobs. I left the glue residue on as I'm not wanting to harm the ivory drawknobs at all..I'll leave that residue on for a "conservatory" type cleaning someday. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't know what the BAIT PUMP drawknob was used for (laughing)..I suspect that was placed as a joke..the console sat in storage for decades unused ...the black "hand label" tape on many drawknobs was when this console was set up to operate a church organ for a time. ![]() The KNOBS & TABLETS button I think was a "either/or" switch to constrol whether the drawknobs were used as couplers OR the tablets...It would have been a way (I'm GUESSING) to register the organ in a very different fashion with the resources available at the time. I will repurpose these switches most likely for something else as I need the drawknobs for other functions. The original tablet couplers will REMAIN and will function as originally specified here by Edwin Lemare. The 20 drawknobs couplerswill be used for other divisions possibly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The 1915 specification of the AUSTIN 500 can be found here: 1914 console specification as it exists in 2009. NOTE: I have ONLY purchased the original console. The 1963 replacement console and ALL pipes remain in storage in the San Francisco bay area, owned by the City of San Francisco and await an uncertain future. June 3, 2009 update: ![]() I have acquired the original 1914 Austin opus 500 console built for the Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco, California to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. It will be quite some time before it ever gets installed in my home though to control the Reuter opus 822, 412, 195 pipe organs. Some preliminary photographs...will do a complete photographic exploration of this console when I get it relocated back to Indiana. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On FACEBOOK as well, email me to get connected!.
